Installed: November 2021
Saved energy, improved guest comfort, and simple to manage — even in a large property.
Four years after installing the Control HQ system, the owner Stephen Savage told us about how his B&B has cut waste, improved guest satisfaction, and found managing heating across multiple rooms easier than ever.
A: I did some research online back in November 2021 and Google showed me that the Control HQ system was the best option for my situation based on what I could find also on the market and the glowing customer reviews I found for this product. I needed something that could handle a good number of rooms, because this is quite a large property.
A: I wanted to be able to control each room individually, but also from one central place. Guest comfort is very important, but I didn’t want to waste energy heating rooms that weren’t in use.
A: My only concern was about reliability – technology moving on and not being as reliable as a simple mechanical valve. Mechanical valves are foolproof, but they waste a lot of energy. With Control HQ I’ve only had two valves fail in four years, which is actually very good considering how much use and punishment they get in a commercial environment like this.
A: I designed it over the phone with the sales team, and it was really easy. Hannah was very helpful, answered all my questions, and knew the system inside out.
A: The unique features. It was the only system I found that could really manage a property of this size properly.
A: Very straightforward. I just followed the instructions and screwed the valves on. I needed a few adapters for my existing valves, but they were easy to fit too.
A: Very easy to use. Even with a large property, I can set one schedule and then quickly apply it across the whole building. It saves a lot of time. It’s very flexible – I can set up multiple time zones during the day and night, and I can copy a schedule from one room to all the others in just a few clicks. That flexibility isn’t there in other systems.
A: The accuracy. If I set a room to 22º, it stays at 22º. There aren’t the big swings in temperature you get with other systems. That means guests are more comfortable, and we’re not wasting energy overheating rooms.
A: I haven’t calculated exact figures, but yes, it definitely saves a lot of energy. The valves control the temperature very precisely, so the rooms don’t overheat. The radiators only put out the warmth that’s needed, which keeps the guests comfortable and saves us money on energy bills.
A: Yes, absolutely. I’ve had no major problems with it at all. Like anything, small issues crop up, but I’ve always been able to sort them myself easily without needing a call-out. It’s reliable, easy to use, and it does exactly what I need.
