In large well-insulated student accommodation blocks, it is still common to see windows being left open from rooms overheating, and communal areas being heated in the middle of the night when they are not being used. Heating of rooms when the students have left for the end of term is inefficient, but has to be done if a small number of students are staying over the holidays.

Regulating the usage in student accommodation blocks is difficult for traditional systems. Running cables to each room to control either individual electric heaters or individual wet radiator valves is prohibitively expensive, even if part of a deep refurbishment of the building. Some student accommodation buildings in city centres are listed, so modifications to the structure are either impossible or very expensive.

Leaving the manual timer controls on the electric heaters where the students are not paying for the bills only invites them to be left on all of the time wasting energy and costing money. Having a single heating schedule for the whole building as one, will generally lead to bad feelings from the students and complaints from those who are working from their rooms during the day.

By prioritising efficiency and comfort, you can enhance the student living experience while keeping operational costs under control. The Control HQ system allows you to adjust room temperatures easily, ensuring that unoccupied rooms are not unnecessarily heated. Each room is reset daily to an ideal temperature based on the landlord or managing agent’s preset preferences, guaranteeing that every student returns to a comfortable and welcoming space. Automatic occupancy detection, subsequently maximises energy saving with minimal effort.

Features

Local Manual Control

Allow tenants to temporarily change the temperature in their rooms. Students can select the desired temperature on the Radiator Valve.

Temperature Limiting

Our system allows students to activate the heating outside the standard schedule but you can restrict them to a maximum temperature limit to avoid misuse of the heating.

Open Window Detection

The Radiator Valve detects when a student has opened a window and turns off their radiator automatically.

What Do Our Customers Say?

Peter Rhodes – John Street Hostel, Carlisle UK

“Having each of the rooms individually controllable has been very much appreciated by our residents. We can check on the temperatures in the individual rooms and it is excellent that the system manages itself and we only need to tweak it from time to time.”

Benefits

Holiday Period

You can turn the heating down during holidays when students are expected to be away from their rooms for the end of term. Rooms only turn on when that room is used so only the rooms are heated for the students who have returned.

Smart Heating

Schedule the timings for each room so they are warm when students use them. But also switches the heating off if the rooms aren't used.

Control The Bills

Control HQ offers a seamless and comprehensive solution for managing your property's energy consumption and running costs.
